Hannah Kent (born 1985) is a contemporary Australian writer, and the author of the bestselling novel ''Burial Rites'' (2013). Kent co-founded and served as deputy editor of Australian literary journal ''Kill Your Darlings'', and is completing her creative writing PhD at Flinders University.〔('About the Author ) 〕 In 2011 she won the inaugural Writing Australia Unpublished Manuscript Award.〔('Monday musings on Australian literature: Unpublished manuscript awards,' ) Whispering Gums 13 March 2014.〕 The novel was published in May 2013 in Australia and the UK by Picador and in September 2013 in the United States and Canada by Little, Brown.
